Rocky Mountain District Rose Show and District Meeting

The Idaho Rose Society will be celebrating 40 years with roses in 2018 and is excited to be hosting the Rocky Mountain District Rose Show and Awards Banquet on June 2, 2018.   The Show and Banquet will be held at The Riverside Hotel located on the beautiful Boise River at 2900 Chinden Blvd. 

The 2018 Rose Show theme  is “Let the Good Times Roll” and will be held in the Aspen Room of The Riverside Hotel.  For those rosarians who are exhibiting roses the setup starts at 7am with judging at 9:15am.  The show runs from 12pm to 5pm with the awards presentation starting at 3:30pm.  See Show Schedule here for more information.  All exhibitors must register before the show.  

The District Awards Banquet will be held that evening in the Liberty Room of The Riverside Hotel starting with a social hour at 6pm, dinner at 7pm, guest speakers at 7:30pm and the District Business meeting following the speakers.  The dinner cost is $45 with a cash/credit card bar.  Register before May 1.

Other activities include a Consulting Rosarian class on Friday, social hour on Friday night and the ‘Art & Roses’ exhibit on Sunday. 

For those rosarians wishing to learn more about roses and become a Consulting Rosarian, the District is holding a Consulting Rosarian school on Friday, June 1, at the Eagle Senior Center, 312 E State Street, Eagle, ID.  Contact Barb Kemp, barbkemp@bajabb.com for more information.  Schedule and registration form to be posted later. 

Join everyone Friday night from 5pm to 7pm for some social time at the Sandbar Patio Bar & Grill beside the Boise River at The Riverside Hotel.  You can also pick up the registration packet during this time.   

The events aren’t over yet.  There is an ‘Art & Roses’ exhibit in the Julia Davis Park & Rose Garden located at 700 S Capitol Blvd.  The exhibit runs from 10 – 6pm.  Come see local artists and the beautiful rose garden.

2018 Rocky Mountain District Rose Show Dates

The District Rose Show dates are set for 2018.  Mark your calendars!

June 2 – The Idaho Rose Society will host the District Rose Show and District meeting at the Riverside Hotel, Boise, ID.  See article for more information.   

June 9 – Utah Rose Society rose show in Salt Lake City, UT. 

June 23 – Pikes Peak Rose Society rose show will be held at Fount of Life Lutheran Church, 6650 Omaha Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO.

June 30 – Denver Rose Society rose show will be held at the Denver Botanic Gardens, 1007 York Street, Denver, CO.

2017 Rocky Mountain District Consulting Rosarian School

The Rocky Mountain District is happy to announce an all-day Consulting Rosarian (“CR”) School in Denver on July 22, 2017, from 8:00am to 4:30pm, at the Plant Society Building, Denver Botanic Gardens, 1007 York Street, Denver, 80206. The CR Program has evolved throughout the years inspiring the love and appreciation of roses. Consulting Rosarians are knowledgeable in all aspects of rose culture and are willing to share their knowledge with other rosarians and the public.

The school is open to prospective and current CRs and will consist of speakers and review of rose related topics.  The registration fee is $40 for prospective CRs and $30 for current CRs auditing the school.  Lunch and refreshments are included in the registration fee.   

To become a CR you must be an active member of a local rose society, have grown various types of roses for at least five years, be a member of the American Rose Society for three consecutive years, complete a CR Candidate Form, have three letters of recommendation and pass an open-book test.  If you are interested in becoming a CR please down load the registration form here and mail along with a check for $40 made out to the Rocky Mountain District to Barbara Kemp, MRD Chair, 15030 W. 77th Drive, Arvada, CO 80007. When your registration form is received, additional forms and instructions will be emailed to you to complete the registration process.  Also purchase or download the CR Manual (see instructions below) before the July class and bring a copy to the class. 

All current CRs who attend the school will receive four credits to recertify for another four years.  If you are a current CR and would like to attend the class please down load the registration form here and mail along with a check for $30 made out to the Rocky Mountain District to Barbara Kemp, MRD Chair, 15030 W. 77th Drive, Arvada, CO 80007. 

The Consulting Rosarian Manual (pages only) is available on the American Rose Society’s website, http://www.rose.org/. You can download a copy by clicking on Members Only, ARS Resources, Consulting Rosarians, and then CR Manual PDF (current 9/16).  Or a paper copy can be purchased from ARS for $10.
